DC food lovers on the hunt for great bread know there aren't a ton of choices downtown (the topic of this recent Ask Amanda post), but a promising newcomer could provide another good option for baguettes, boules and more.

Paul, a bakery born in France more than 100 years ago, plans to make its DC debut in January. The company has announced that it will open a bakery and 50-seat cafe early next year at 801 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. The French chain currently has a few locations in Florida.

Paul's breads, like the fougasse aux olives and whole wheat Charlemagne loaf, are made with organic flour and don't contain any preservatives.

The new shop will also sell seasonal fruit tarts, cakes, croissants and other French sweets, like millefeuille, alongside a full-service coffee bar.

Oh and macarons ... naturellement.
