1. Crispy pig's ear salad at The Queen Vic. Bitter greens, a perfectly cooked soft egg and locally sourced pork. I always get this salad for brunch while the rest of my family orders breakfast. The meat and produce at the Queen Vic is locally sourced. And the beers are fantastic to boot.
2. Egg pizza at Liberty Tree. Arugula, prosciutto, a soft egg ... sensing a theme? What can I say? It's hard to beat pork and a beautifully runny egg.
3. The Love Park salad at Taylor Gourmet. If I need a healthy meal in a hurry, I opt for this arugula, cherry tomato, pesto and fresh mozarella combination, and then I ask them to hold the pastina and add grilled chicken. My son likes the only slightly less healthy fried mozarella sticks, but he smartly pairs them with a healthful tomato dipping sauce. Ok, so the sauce comes with the sticks. He's still a smarty pants!
4. Bison burger and frites at Granville Moore's. Still one of the best restaurants on H Street. Rare burger. Crispy fries. Perfection. You have your choice of mayonnaise — I always get the truffle mayo on the side.
5. Grilled pork belly skewers at Kushi. For lunch, I get a few grilled skewers and a green salad on the side, hold the rice. These were my splurge when I was pregnant with my daughter, since I couldn't eat their amazing salmon sashimi! Smoky, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Delish.
